Life Groups to Growth Groups
As we look toward 2023 we have decided that we wanted to try our best to be more direct in our communication.
Our Purpose/Mission
LOVE | CONNECT | DISCIPLE | SEND
LOVE: Sunday Worship will be used to help members and guest learn to love God and be instructed on how to love others in and outside the church.
CONNECT: Growth Groups will be used to help us love others and build meaningful relationships.
DISCIPLE: Growth Groups will be used to teach and disciple while preparing members to be sent out for Ministry.
SEND: After being trained and equipped in Growth Groups members will be encouraged to serve on one of our ministry teams that function in the church and in the community.
Life Group has been at the core of everything that we do at Exalted Word. In 2023 we will still remain faithful to using Life Groups as part of our disciple making process, under the new name "Growth Groups". We want to better reflect our coming together with the purpose of growing in the things of God.
Exalted Word Ministries Birth Place
Exalted Word Ministries was literally birthed out of a small group/growth group structure. At the genesis of our ministry, because we didn’t have a facility to meet, we met for months, week after week in the living room of the Wilson’s home. We prayed, we studied God’s Word and we fellowshipped. In those meetings we saw people come to Christ, we saw people delivered from addictions and some many other moves of God.
For this cause we say:
“Exalted Word is not a church that does Growth Groups. Exalted Word is a Growth Group that does church.”
Biblical Foundation
Acts 2:42-47 ERV The believers spent their time listening to the teaching of the apostles. They shared everything with each other. They ate[a] together and prayed together. 43 Many wonders and miraculous signs were happening through the apostles, and everyone felt great respect for God. 44 All the believers stayed together and shared everything. 45 They sold their land and the things they owned. Then they divided the money and gave it to those who needed it. 46 The believers shared a common purpose, and every day they spent much of their time together in the Temple area. They also ate together in their homes. They were happy to share their food and ate with joyful hearts. 47 The believers praised God and were respected by all the people. More and more people were being saved every day, and the Lord was adding them to their group.
What is a Growth Group?
A Growth Group consists of 4 to 20 people gathering in a Growth Group leader's home or a designated Life Group room at the church building, either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, to share a meal, fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. Growth Groups exist to accomplish certain key goals of the Kingdom.
The main goal is to edify believers by connecting them on a more intimate level and helping them to become more like Jesus Christ. Another goal is to evangelize by offering another venue, besides that of the regular Sunday church service, that may be initially less intimidating to seekers, newcomers, and those interested in finding out more about our Heavenly Father.
The Core
At their core, Growth Groups are small Christian communities. Evangelism and discipleship are most effective when they are interwoven into personal relationships. Growth Groups can provide an environment where these types of relationships are fostered.
In Growth Groups, people may come to know God more fully and experience His presence in their lives through the Christian community and fellowship. Individuals are nurtured, equipped, and released to be used by God to accomplish the work that He has called them to.
They provide an opportunity for intimacy, mutual sharing and support, practical love and service, greater devotion to God and others, prayer, spiritual growth, and real-life examples of how God is working in our midst. They are led by pastors and trained Life Group leaders from the congregation who are given ongoing support.
What happens in a Life Group?
When you attend or join a Life Group, you can expect a warm time of food, fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. Life Groups are open to all Christians and those seeking or investigating Jesus Christ and His message. Long-term trust and relationships are nurtured, and loving support and accountability as followers of Jesus Christ are cultivated on an ongoing basis.
These groups may also serve as a great way to integrate new members and new believers into their new church family, and as a way to keep the leadership informed of the issues and concerns faced by members of the congregation of which they might otherwise have been unaware.
